Securing Sunglasses

LOOK FAMILIAR?

PAYING RENT TO SUNGLASSES COMPANIES

It feels like we’re always buying replacement sunglasses. Riding’s often the problem – our glasses get banged up when we’re not using them. There’s no safe, convenient spot to put your sunglasses in a SxS.

We got to work.

BUILD IT STRONG

We knew from the start we didn’t want a flimsy sunglasses sleave. We wanted a structured, rigid container that we could count on for years.

We decided EVA-molded foam with a PU waterproof coating would be best.

But we still hadn’t figured out the lid…

INTERIOR MATERIAL

Water resistant similar to backpack exterior.

→ Must be easily cleaned.

→ Can be shaken out. Rejecting the retention of sand and dirt particles.

→ Resist scratching or marring of sunglass lenses.

LOOP & STRAPS

Portion sewn to back of pouch. Create no stitch, no glue channels for straps to pass through.

Straps to be passed halfway through channels in hook pads. Straps have D-rings on one end.

Straps help grip rollbar tubing. 1.5" - 2.0"

MAGNETS VS. ZIPPERS

We rode with protoypes of the Sunglasses Holder and realized it needed to be a one-hand, fast access container.

We changed the product design to include a magnetic lid with a dust guard to accomplish two goals:

  1. Easy, one-handed access
  2. Dust & weather blockage

MULTI-MOUNT

We couldn’t decide between a flat surface mount or a roll bar mount. So, we designed the sunglasses holder to have both:

  1. 3M Adhesive (30 lbs. load-bearing)
  2. Friction-Ribbed Roll Bar Strap Mount

Riders can choose which mounting method to use and keep the other mounting hardware in the garage in case they change their mind.
